This is one of the most common questions we get, and it’s a fair one.
Our shark liver oil is sourced from Squalus blainville (commonly known as longnose spurdog). This species is not classified as endangered.
The sharks used for our shark liver oil are not harvested specifically for their livers. They are caught for their meat as part of regulated commercial fisheries. The liver is a byproduct of that harvest.
Instead of discarding the liver, it’s processed into oil. That’s a more responsible, nose-to-tail approach that makes use of material that would otherwise go to waste.
Our supplier operates under strict European food safety and traceability standards, and every batch is tested for heavy metals, dioxins, PCBs, microbial contaminants, and oxidation markers before release.
